I've seen signs on I-94 but where IS River Falls?

Nine miles south the interstate from Exit 3. People sometimes confuse us with BLACK River Falls -- the village with the giant moose north of Tomah.

We're just 33 miles southeast of downtown St. Paul and eight miles east of the legendary St. Croix River.

Visitors from the west can cross the river at Hudson and head south on Hwy. 35;  Prescott head east on Hwy. 29; From Red Wing and head north on Hwy. 63 to Hwy. 65.

What's there to see?

UW-River Falls, a four-year UW System campus, is our biggest general attraction. We host 6,200-plus undergrad and graduate students in a variety of disciplines. While once affectionately known as "Moo U" or "Silo Tech", UW-RF has strong programs in business, education, food science & technology, ag engineering, fine arts and much more.

Outside of campus, we're mighty proud of our Kinnickinnic River, a class I trout stream and deemed an “Outstanding Resource Water” by our State Legislature. The Kinni begins as a spring in a farm field and flows 22 miles -- during which it's joined by four spring creeks -- before it empties to the mighty St. Croix at Kinnickinnic State Park. The watershed includes scenic bluff lands, oak savanna, original prairie, pine forest, wooded coulees and lots of rare and endangered plant species. The main draw however is wild native brook trout!

My daughter has a soccer tourney in RF next weekend? What can I do between games?

Zounds of choices ... wander downtown and browse the shops. You can get a delicious sandwich made-to-order at Grateful Bread, pick up some munchies from the bulk offerings at Econofoods or Whole Earth Cooperative. Park near Heritage Park, across the river behind the theatre downtown and walk the White Pathway loop around to the Dairy Queen for a treat. Prefer fast-food or a sit-down experience? North Main Street has the Westwind Supper Club's bountiful buffet or there's Perkins' ever-changing menu. A block north you'll find Burger King, Subway and McDonald's just a few steps away from ShopKo.

If you've brought along food, Glen Park, west of South Main, has picnic tables and shelters within earshot of the falls on the South Fork. If you want a take-out picnic, Dick's Fresh Market just to the south has broasted chicken to-go along with lots more.

If you've got bikes, explore UW-RF campus via its scenic, paved trails along the South Fork. Sprawling Hoffman Park is within walking distance of the Golfview and Greenwood soccer fields. Again, there's shelters, tables, a sand volleyball court and wonderful trail up on the Mound that's maintained by local Scout troops.

Like to skateboard? Frisbee golf? Hoffman Park offers a skatepark for boards and trick bikers to vent energy and hosts a fun Frisbee golf course snaking around softball fields and the campground.

Our spacious, air-conditioned library (North Main Street) is open most Saturdays. Along with free computer access, comfortable lounge areas and thousands of titles, there's usually an exhibit underway in the lower level.

I like what I see. How can I learn more about RF?

Lots of options for you. The City's web site -- www.rfcity.org -- has contact information for most everything from incentives to relocate your business to how to profiles about our local police officers. eee.riverfallsjournal.com will give yoiu the latest happenings in the area. Learn about all things Kinnickinnic via www.kinniriver.org. The UW-River Falls has free lectures, exhibits, concerts and other public events most every day of the year. See what's going on today via www.uwrf.edu.
